Bhaktapur, in terms of the sphere, is the smallest district in the country with a total area of 119 square kilometres (46 sq mi). Yet, it holds the four most beautiful places in the Kathmandu Valley as its municipalities. The municipalities of Bhaktapur are as follows:
- Bhaktapur Municipality
- Changu Narayan Municipality
- Suryabinayak Municipality
- Madhyapur thimi Municipality
Today, with each of the municipalities of Bhaktapur’s strengths, Bhaktapur is leaving a tremendous impact on the national arena, not only with its infrastructural development but also with tourism hospitality and educational contributions.
This city, for now, is setting an example of a better living place. Moreover, it is no less in preventing and preserving its cultural heritage as well. This ancient burgh, surprisingly, was the most powerful kingdom of the Kathmandu Valley during the 14th-16th century of the time. Bhaktapur was the capital of Nepal until the Malla kingdom was divided into three states.
But, before that time phase, it was very popular as khopring. Which later on transmutes as Khwopa. That’s why the native residences of Bhaktapur still call this burgh khwopa. Though, it is also popular as Bhadgaun, after Bhaktapur.
