Who would have thought that the way of Mr. Thomas Hiram Holding of having a recreational vacation outside in the woods, would be today’s trending vocational passage?
His very first handbook of camping was released in 1908 where he gave a detailed account of the essentials of camping. That’s why he is still regarded as the father of modern-day recreational camping.
Camping, as normally understood is the night stay where people sleep in a tent. And the destination mostly became the close interactive place to the nature, far from the luxury and your residences, of course.
Destination and season play the most vital role during camping. In Nepal, the time between Dashain and Tihar (Oct-Nov) is considered the best time to do hikes, camping, and treks. After all, it is the peak season for traveling. Neither hot nor extreme cold weather just matches up the spirit of the travelers.
We the team of Bhaktapur.com, right after the last hike of ours, were planning to do camping.
The first thing that we had to decide for camping was the destination. By that period, we were thinking about Maligaun and Nagarkot. The Trishul Danda was also on the list, yet at last, we choose to go to Ghyampe Danda. Of course, cause it was one of the best-suited places to do camping in Bhaktapur. Especially for the beginners.
Bhaktapur is surrounded by amazingly beautiful hills. So, it was not difficult to find the destination rather it was quite hard to choose exactly where to go? One more thing, before confirming your destination, don’t forget to inspect the place by yourself. Like the routes, area, and other facilities.
Like, Ghyampe danda, the southern hill station of Bhaktapur which already is one attractive destination. And recently established zipline made it innumerably popular though. However, the destination where we were about to camp was not neat at all. Actually, I was quite disappointed at that time. Thus, you should be careful about such matters too.
People should have considered these things when they go to public places like Ghyampe Danda. It was so unpleasant to see dust all over the ground. First, when we reach there, we kind of like ooh, we didn’t expect this… However, that does not interrupt us from enjoying the sunset.
Right after that, we cleaned some portion of the place and started to make our camps. It was a first-hand experience making a tent like that. Nhuja, one of our co-operators and a scout member taught us to make the camp. Finally, when the camp was set, we started to light the fire. It’s camping. So without a campfire, camping would not be camping anymore. Right!
Nevertheless, you can buy woods from local people out there.
We learn a lot of things during this camp. Despite the beautiful destination, we surely had a beautiful night. Although there are things that you must consider while camping like what to bring, what to wear and what things do we need to consider during camping.
Besides, the most enjoyable thing about camping was sitting in front of the campfire, of course, then feeling the cold and listening to those out-of-the-topic talks of friends. On top of that, the night view of the city and photography as well simply added new experiences to our lives.
And, trust me, you would find each and every type of personality in camps. Like, the best one who can sing well, then those who laugh without any reason, that one who stays silent, another one taking videos and photos, one group undergoing into the songs, and one who runs out from here and there.
Here are some things, that are so unforgettable about this camp, at least for me. The best part of our camping…
The guff of our designer…
Mesmerizing sunset and warm sunrise
The night light of the city and shining sky (filled with stars and half-moon)
Milk tea in the early in the morning
The pristine view of the cold mountain range
