Here, we have another lushing and nutritious Newari food. We allied it as kwati. Well, kwati is its local name. This is a hot soup. As the name means, where kwa means hot and ti means soup in the Newari language. Auspiciously, they drink it during the Janai Purnima. Newar people celebrate this day as guhni punhi. The kwati is made of nine varieties of beans. Somehow it indicates the ninth month (gunla) of Nepal era lunar calendar. The soup includes ingredients like black gram, green gram, chickpea, field bean, soybean, field pea, garden pea, cowpea, and rice bean. To prepare kwati, first of all, all ingredients are soaked in water for three to four days. And finally boiled with a variety of spices. It is also said that this food cures cold and cough as well as made you healthy.
